16U Texas Storm Wins 1st Boulder Bracket Game Against New Jersey Pride by 4-2

July 3, 2004 -  16U Texas Storm coached by Ronn Dixon and 16 U New Jersey Prode coached by Sergio Rodriguez played in a 12:00 noon game at Louisville Sports Complex in the Louisville Slugger Independence Day Tournament in Boulder Colorado. It was the 1st bracket game for both teams. 

Texas Storm jumped to a 3-0 lead in the 3rd inning. Short stop Cristina Winters lead off the inning with a walk. Mariza Martinez then slapped a single from the left side of the plate. When Kiersten Dixon was batting, the field umpire warned the pitcher about an illegal pitch. She was not starting her pitch with both feet on the rubber. On the next pitch, she was called for an illegal pitch. Cristina moved to 3rd and Mariza moved to 2nd. Kirsten drew a walk. Libby Dennis walked. Cristina scored because bases were loaded before Libby's walk. The pitcher was outside of the pitching circle, so Mariza tried to steal home. The pitcher threw to the catcher who tagged Mariza out at home plate for Out No. 1. Kiersten and Libby moved to 3rd and 2nd base, respectively. Amanda Crabtree hit a double to center field. Both Kiersten and Libby scored. Courtney Petit popped up to the 2nd baseman for out No. 2. Amanda
was tagged out at the plate by the catcher for Out No. 3.

New Jersey countered with a run of their own. Alisha Prystowsky grounded out to the short stop. Jenna Corrado hit a little Texas Leaguer that fell in behind the pitcher for a base hit. Megan Livesey then singled in the gap between the short stop and third baseman. Lhenee Riddick flew out to left field for Out No. 2. Jenna scored on the play.  The score was 3-1. The next batter struck-out swinging to end the innning.

Storm added another run in the 5th inning. Mariza reached 1st base safely from a left side slap. She advanced to 2nd base on a pass ball. Kierston Dixon singled from a drop bunt. Kierston's single moved Mariza to 3rd base.  The next batter struck-out. Amanda Crabtree drew a walk. Katy Smith replaced Amanda as a baserunner. Courtney Petit hit a grounder to 3rd base. The 3rd baseman threw home to get the force out at the plate. Ashley Miller then singled to left center bringing home Kierston. The next batter struck-out to end the inning.

New Jersey countered again. Jackie Turco doubled to center field. Sarah Evangelista grounded out to the pitcher.  Jackie moved to 3rd base on the play. Jackie scored on a pass ball. Marysa Cole struck-out and Beth Lipman grounded out to the short stop to end the inning and the game. Storm was the winner with a 4-2 score.

Libby Dennis pitched the complete game. Libby had two strike-outs, no walks and gave-up 5 hits. Libby was mixing screw balls with drop balls. College Sports Exposure radared Libby throwing 58 mph in the 4th inning. 

Erika Lockhart pitched the complete game for the New Jersey Pride. Erika had 2 strike-outs, 5 walks and gave-up 6 hits. College Sports Exposure radared Erika throwing 56 mph.

Mariza Martinez, Kiersten Dixon, Amanda Crabtree and Ashley Miller had hits for the Storm. Mariza slapped a single in the 3rd inning and in the 5th inning. Kiersten singled from a drop bunt in the 5th inning. Amanda doubled to center field in the 3rd inning. Ashley singled to left field in the 3rd and 5th innings.

Alisha Prystowsky, Marysa Cole, Jenna Corrado, Megan Livesey and Jackie Turco had hits for the Pride. Alisha singled to left field in the 1st inning. Marysa hit a pop-up in the infield for a single in the 3rd inning.  Jenna singled in the infield in the 4th inning. Megan singled to left field in the 4th inning. Jackie doubled to center field in the 5th inning.

Storm advance to the next bracket game against the 16U Colorado Comets. Since the bracket play was single elimination, New Jersey was through for the tournament.
