July 3, 2004 - 16U Texas Storm coached by Ronn Dixon and the 16U Colorado Comets coached by
Bernie Dvorak met in a 2nd round 6:00 pm game in the Winner's Bracket at the 16U Independence Day
Tournament in Boulder, Colorado. The tournament was single elimination. Texas Storm
reached this game by defeating the New Jersey Pride 4 to 2 in a 12:00 noon game. The Colorado Comets
coached by Bernie Dvorak defeated the Colorado Comets coached by Vince Madrid by a score of 2-0
to reach this game.
Colorado Comets scored first. With one out, Kelsey Swanberg hit a line drive to left
field for a single. K. Billingsly then popped up to the 3rd baseman for out No. 2.
Kelsey moved to 2nd base on a pass ball. Danielle Kim singled, scoring Kelsey. Danielle went to 2nd base
on the throw home to get Kelsey. Danielle advanced to 3rd base on a pass ball. Mikaela
Delue walked and then stole 2nd base. With runners on 3rd and 2nd, Nikki Lau struck out looking
on a change-up to end the inning.
Texas Storm tied it up in the 5th inning. Libby Dennis hit the ball in the right center gap for a double.
Jana Creel was substituted in for Libby. Ashley Miller laid down a sacrifice bunt. Jana moved to third base
on the third baseman throw to first to get Ashley for out No. 1. Katy Smith then hit a ground ball to
the 2nd baseman who threw to first to get Katy. Jana scored on the play to tie the game. Cristina
Winters then grounded out to the pitcher to end the inning.
Storm won the game in the 7th or International Tie Breaker inning. Rachel Hebert started on 2nd base.
Amanda Crabtree laid down a bunt to the pitcher. The pitcher turned around and fired to 3rd to get Rachel.
Rachel was safe at 3rd and Amanda was safe at 1st on the fielder's choice play. Courtney Petit
then hit a grounder to the short stop who threw to 1st to get Courtney. The first baseman then fired home
to the catcher who was blocking the plate and who tagged out Rachel Hebert. Coach Ronn Dixon then pointed out
to the umpire that the catcher was blocking the plate before the throw was initiated and Rachel was called safe.
Amanda Crabtree was now at 3rd base. Libby Dennis grounded out to the pitcher and once again the 1st baseman
fired home to the catcher who tagged out Amanda for out No. 3.
Although Storm led at this point, the game was not over because Colorado Comets had a turn at bat. Abigail Dvorak
started at 2nd base in this tie breaker inning. Kelsey Swanberg popped up to the 1st baseman for out No. 1.
K. Billinsley then hit a line drive to left field. Outfielder Kiersten Dixon used her speed to get to the well
hit ball and look like she had caught it when it spun out of her glove. Abigail held up at 2nd until she saw the
ball drop out of the glove and then moved to 3rd base on a close play. K. Billinsley ended up at 2nd base.
The game looked rosey for the Comets. However, Danielle Kim struck-out on a screw ball and Mickaela Delue
struck-out on a low rise.
Pitching was outstanding for both teams. Jennifer Smith pitched all 7 innings for the Storm. She will be
a sophomore (2006) this fall in high school. She lives in Baytown. Jennifer had 8 strike-outs and gave-up 1 run,
walked 3 batters and allowed 3 hits. Jennifer got stronger as the game went on and gave-up no hits in the last 5
innings. Jennifer had a rise ball curve ball, screw ball and change-up. Jennifer had an excellent rise ball.

Jenny Brock pitched all 7 innings for the Colorado Comets. She had 6 strike-outs and gave-up 2 walks, 3 hits

was about 38 mph.
Rachel Hebert, Libby Dennis and Katy Smith had hits for the Storm. Rachel hit a line drive to left center for
a single in the 1st inning. Katy Smith hit a single to right center in teh 2nd inning. Libby Dennis hit a
double in the right center gap in the 5th inning.
Jenny Brock, Kelsey Swanberg and Danielle Kim had hits for Colorado. Jenny hit a Texas Leaguer that dropped in
behind the short stop in the 1st inning. Kelsey hit a line drive single tp right field in the 2nd inning. Danielle
Kim also singled in the 2nd inning.
