June 30, 2004 - Houston Power played Oregon Strictly Softball in their first pool game at 11:00 am at
East Mapleton Fields in Boulder, Colorado. Houston Power got on the score board in the
2nd inning with two outs when Haley Valis hit a ground ball to short stop and reached first
on a throwing error. Haley went to 2nd and was safe there after a throwing error by the
first baseman. Catcher Amanda Brown then hit a ground ball in the gap between the short stop
and 3rd baseman for a clean single. Haley scored on the play to gave Power a 1-0 lead.
Olivia Henley then followed with a line drive single in the same gap that moved Amanda Brown to
2nd base. Jessica Valis then placed a drag bunt down the 3rd base line for a single.
Jessica is a left hand batter. When College Sports Exposure filmed her video, she was timed running
from home to first on contact in 2:7 seconds and from home to home in 11:80 seconds. With bases
loaded Jazzmine Jackson struck-out to end the inning. This is the only score Houston Power
needed to win this game shorten to one hour by a rain storm from the night before.
With one out in the 4th inning, it look like Power was going to add another run when Haley Valis
hit a ball to deep center field that was going over the fence for a home run. The Oregon Strictly
Softball center fielder ran over the portable fence and made the catch for an out. It was a
fantastic defensive play.
Laura Masch started the game on the mound for Power. Laura is a 2005 graduate from Austin, Texas.
Laura struck-out 4 batters in 3 innings of work. She gave-up one single. College Sports Exposure
radar Laura throwing between 56 and 57 mph. Laura kept the Oregon Strictly Softball batters off balance
with various pitches. Her change-up was very effective and was used as a strike out pitch. Pwer brought
in Melissa Wright from Clear Brook High School to pitch the last two innings. Melissa struck-out two
batters and gave-up two singles. College Sports Exposure radared Melissa throwing between 58 and 60 mph.
Melissa is a 2005 graduate and has already verballed to Houston Baptist University.
Cory Benco, Lauren Cusick and Katie Johns got the three singles for Oregon Strictly Softball.
Cory singled to right center field in the 3rd inning. Lauren singled to right field in the 4th inning.
She also stole 2nd base. Katie hit a fly to right center in the gap in the 5th inning.
Amy Candioto was the starting pitcher for Oregon Strictly Softball. Amy struck-out two batters in three
innings of work. One of the strike-outs was a foul ball on a bunt on the third strike. She gave-up three
hits in the 2nd inning. College Sports Exposure radared Amy at 56 mph on her drops and 43 mph on her change-up.
Jennifer Mendenhall pitched the final two innings for Oregon. Jennifer gave-up no hits and no strike-outs.
College Sports Exposure radared Jennifer throwing between 58 and 60 mph. Her change-up was 48 mph.
