2002 College Sports Exposure All-Texas Softball Team

by Duane  Treybig

Sept. 2, 2001 - In early Nov., the Class 2002 seniors will be signing their National Letters of Intent with the NCAA softball coaches of their favorite colleges. College Sports Exposure has been fortunate this past year to film videos, mail-out resumes and scout a number of the outstanding players in Texas that should sign in Nov. Nicole Denes of Coppell High School and Katy Cruisers Gold, and Brittany Faske of Memorial High School and Houston Storm are the stand-out pitchers. At the ASA 18U Gold Qualifier in Katy this summer, College Sports Exposure radar the 5'11" Denes at 66 mph in an exhibition game. Faske managed to shut-out the Cruisers in that exhibition game at Katy with help from junior Sarah Lancour. The 5'7" Faske does an excellent job of hitting her spots and has a screw, curve, drop and change that she mixes in with her fast ball. Faske was one of the few juniors to make the All-Greater Houston Chronicle Team this past spring. She  made the Louisville Slugger/ NFCA team in 2000 & 2001. Beth Pavlicek of Kempner High school and the Diamonds is similar to Faske in that she hits her spots and has a screw, curve, drop, rise and change. Jessica Denham of Alvin High School and Diamonds was the MVP in District 24-5A.  She has an excellent drop ball that she spots on the outside corner. Jennifer Leal of Elkins High School and Missouri City Magic, and Kristen Rupp of Oak Ridge high School and Montgomery County Elite have both been radar at 61 mph by College Sports Exposure and are reported to throw much faster. Jennifer Leal has a nice knuckle ball as well! Kristen was selected as the Defensive Player of the Year in District 21-4A in 2001.

Erin Crandall of Deer Park High School and Houston Storm; Mollie Durfee of Lutheran North High School and Houston Storm, and Lee Lara of Navasota High School and Montgomery County Elite ands are the top 2002 graduating catchers. Mollie is a two-time 3A All-State Private School Catcher (2000 & 2001).  Lee finished the year as the number 5 hitter in 4A in the Greater Houston area. As only a junior she was the career home run leader in Navasota High School history.

Kelly Osburn leads the 2002 All-Texas College Sports Exposure Softball Team in the infield. Kelly knocked balls routinely out of Stamo park in Missouri City during batting practice as an 8th grader on the 18U Texas Thunderbolts. This summer she was selected to the All-American 1st team for her play at short stop for the Katy Cruisers in the 18U ASA Gold National Tournament in Marietta, Georgia. She also plays short stop for Elkins High School. She is very athletic and she hits the ball out of the park even more consistently now!

Brittany Tuck played 3rd and catcher for the Beaumont Blast this summer and pitcher and short stop for Dayton high school. Brittany was also chosen to the All-State Team as a junior. She hit numerous home runs this past high school season and hit four home runs when College Sports Exposure filmed her. Brittany also finished her high school season by making the All-Greater Houston Chronicle team as a junior. She also was selected as the Offensive Player of the Year in District 21-4A.

Paige Schwab plays 3rd base/utility for the Houston Storm, and pitchers and plays 3rd for Lamar High School. When I scouted Paige at the Elkins and Lamar High School play-off game this past spring I was impressed with how fast Paige got to the bunts. In Boulder Colorado, Paige was clocked at 2.63 seconds from home to first and 12:39 seconds from home to home.

Leiann Pettus is a 5'9" 2nd baseman and outfielder for Dripping Springs High School and Austin Storm. She is a fine line drive hitter with home run power. She has hit several home runs for her travel team and hit two out of the park in one game as a sophomore. Leianne hit one homer out of the park when College Sports Exposure filmed her.

Allissa Rios plays short stop for J. Frank Dobie High School and short stop, 2nd base and outfield for Beaumont Kaos.  Allissa covers the distance from home to first in less than 2.77 seconds. Although Allissa hits with good power she also drags and slaps from the left side of the plate. Allissa made the 22-5A All-District 1st team as a short stop.

Sarah Arldt plays 3rd base for Mayde Creek High School and 2nd and short stop for Texas Speed U18 Gold. She travels the distance from home to first in less than 2.79 seconds. Besides hitting away, she can drag and slap from the left side of the plate.

Brooke Bogdanski plays 3rd base for Langham Creek High School, and 3rd base and short stop for the Renegades.  Brooke hit 3 home runs out of the Katy Taylor High School park during her filming by College Sports Exposure.  Brooke was selected as a 1st team 16-5A All-District infielder.  College Sports Exposure projects her as a first baseman in college.

The outfield is lead by super star Tina Boutelle of Katy Taylor High School and the Katy Cruisers Gold. Like Kelly Osburn, Tina was selected to the All-American 1st team this summer for her play at the ASA Gold Nationals with the Cruisers. She is phenomena hitter that seems to hit even better under pressure. In the past three years, Tina has displayed incredible hitting streaks when Katy Taylor has been in the High School play-offs.

Beverly Rowan plays center field for Bryan High School and center field and catcher for the Bryan Texas Comets. During the filming of her video, she impressed me as a catcher with her quickness and arm!  I believe Beverly will be an excellent college catcher. She hit a home run out of the park when I filmed her and a grand slam in the ASA 18U Gold Qualifier in Katy. Beverly was selected as the Designated Hitter in District 16-5 in 2001. She was selected to the All-State team as a designated hitter.

Tara Lindsey played centerfield and short stop for Jersey Village High School and center field this summer for Houston Storm. Her hot bat was a big factor in helping Houston Storm win the 18U ASA National Qualifier in Killeen, Texas.

Natasha Jacob of Coppell High School and the Katy Cruisers is another outstanding outfielder that can hit! Natasha helped Coppell win the Class 5A High School State Championship in 2001 and the Katy Cruisers Gold win the 18U ASA Gold National Championship.
