College Sports Exposure Fastest Softball Player Winners

by Duane  Treybig

July 29, 2001 - July 1st has passed and College Coaches are already making contact and offers to High School senior softball players.  Many College Coaches are looking for players with speed. Defensively, speed allows a player to get to balls a slower player cannot. Offensively, speed is used to squeeze out a base hit with a surprise bunt, left side drag or slap. On the base paths, it helps to steal bases and score runs. Speed helps win Games!

The baserunning part of a skill video is filming a player running from home to first base; and home to home. College Sports Exposure usually films the player running bases at the end of the filming session after the players are tired from fielding and hitting. As a consequence, the times reported here are much slower than the personal best for these players.

Home to first time is started when the player makes contact with the ball pitched from a pitching machine and stopped when the player touches the first base bag. The player has a choice of bunting, dragging, slapping or hitting from either side. Time is measured off the 8 mm tape.

The fastest player from to home to first is junior Joy Davis who plays for the Silver Travelers and who will play for James Bowie High School in Austin this year. Joy's family is moving from Devine to Austin this summer. Joy ran from home to first in 2:72 seconds.

Allissa Rios and Sarah Arldt covered home to first in 2:77 and 2:79 seconds, respectively. Both are 2002 seniors. Allissa plays short stop for Pasadena Dobie and the Beaumont Kaos. Sarah Arldt plays 3rd, 2nd and outfield for the Texas Speed and 3rd base for Mayde Creek High School.

Paige Schwab and Emily Lederer are two other player's to run from home to first in less than
3 seconds.  Paige plays 3rd base for the Texas Storm and 3rd and pitcher for Lamar High School.  Emily plays 2nd base for the National Champion Katy Cruisers and Saint Agnes Academy.

Home to home time is also started when the player makes contact with the ball pitched from a pitching machine and is stopped when the player touches home plate. It is also timed off the
8 mm tape.

The fastest time for home to home was 12:47 seconds by 2002 senior Beth Pavlicek. Beth is a pitcher and outfielder for the Diamonds and Kemptner High School.

Layne Nelson, Joy Davis and Cellie Davis were timed at 12:53, 12:54 and 12:62, respectively. Layne plays catcher for 18U Gold Texas Comets in Bryan and Bryan High School. Cellie Davis plays for U18 Missouri City Magic coached by Linda Houlihan and managed by  Norberto Droz.  Both Layne and Cellie are 2002 seniors.

A softball skills video can be obtained of any of these players by contacting the player.  If you need their contact information, contact College Sports Exposure.
