Katy Express Beat Washington Lady Hawks 4-2

June 12, 2004 - Katy Express scored once in the 1st inning and 3 more times in the
2nd inning to coast pass the Washington Lady Hawks 4-2. Kristina Tello got things 
going in the right direction for Katy Express by drawing a walk. Brittany Boren moved
Kristina to 2nd base with a sacrifice bunt. Haylay Petrash single scored Kristina. The
next batter struck-out and then Jenny Matulich grounded out to the short stop for out No. 3.

The second inning started out like the first. Katy Express Kimmy Lee drew a walk. Kimmy 
stole 2nd base while Cori Bram was batting. Cori struck-out for out No. 1. The Hawks
replaced pitcher Lauren Sandelin with Caitlin Noble. Kimmy scored after two wild pitches
by Caitlin. Tiffany Velez drew a walk. The next batter struck-out for out No. 2. Kristina
Tello then hit a line drive for a triple down the third base line that spun into foul territory.
The hit scored Tiffany and gave Express a 3-0 lead. Brittany Boren then singled to left field 
bringing home Kristina for a 4-0 lead. Brittany stole 2nd base. Then Haylay Petroch hit a 
slow roller to short stop and just barely beat the throw to 1st base. Meanwhile Brittany
was racing home for another score. The Hawks 1st baseman Patti Wunderlich threw home and 
Brittany was tagged out at the plate for out No. 3.

The Hawks got their offense rolling in the 5th inning With two outs. Lauren Sandelin singled
and Tyler Schafer reached 1st base on a error by the short stop. Lauren Proctor then singled
and brought home Lauren Sandelin. Alicia Matthews reached 1st base on another error by the short stop. Tyler scored to bring the score to 4-2 in favor of Express. Cori Braum bearred down and struck-out Patti Wunderlich to end the game.

Cori Bram started the game for Katy Express. She was relieved by Kimmy Lee. Cori re-entered in the 5th inning to close out the game. College Sports Exposure radared Cori throwing 60-62 mph in the first inning. Cori and Kimmy combined for 7 strike-outs and gave-up 3 hits and 1 walk.

For the Lady Hawks, Lauren Sandelin had 2 strike-outs and gave-up one hit and two walks. Caitlin Noble had 3 strike-outs and gave-up three hits and one walk. 

Lauren Proctor was the leading hitter for Washington Lady Hawks. She hit a line drive in the gap between left and center field in the 1st inning in addition to the single in the 5th inning.

The loss sent Washington home.

Katy Express next met the Arizona Outlaws in a Saturday 6:15 pm game in the Looser's bracket. Arizona beat Katy Express in an International Tie Breaker inning 1-0.
