Gulf Coast Challengers Lose 2nd Winner's Bracket Game at the Colorado Fireworks Tournament

July 2, 2004 - Texas Gulf Coast Challengers coached by Joe Garcia and California Sorcerer Gold coached by Phil Mumma played in a 1:00 pm second round Winner's Bracket game in the 2004 Colorado Fireworks Tournament at the Aurora Sports Park, Complex A on Colfax Avenue in Aurora, Colorado.  Texas Gulf Coast Challengers had won their first Winner's bracket game 1-0. 

California Sorcerer did not any waste time scoring.  They scored twice in the 1st inning.  With one out, Meghan Pipkin was safe at 1st on a left side drag.  Becky McCullough was safe at first on an error by the short stop.  Samantha Rodriguez then singled to left field bringing home Meghan.  Samantha reached 2nd base because of a throwing error by the left fielder.  Julie Stauder then singled to right field.  Becky scored on the play. Samantha also tried to score but was tagged out by catcher Brittany West.  Amber Smith singled to right field.  Julie was tagged out at home by Brittany West for Out No. 3.  

California Sorcerer added two more runs in the 4th inning.  Amber Smith hit a line drive down the left field
line for a single. Laurel Pipkin was substituted in as a baserunner for Amber. She moved to 2nd base on a throwing error by the left fielder.  Rose Docena walked.  Rene Berdiago hit a ground ball to the short stop.  Laurel was called out for interference when she ran infront of short stop Christina Meyers when Christina was trying to field the grounder.  Micah Putnam then singled up the middle.  Rose scored on the play. Amy Sunga was safe at first after a throwing error.  Micah scored on the play.  Meghan Pipkin grounded out to the 3rd baseman for Out No. 3.   

California added three insurance runs in the 5th inning.  Becky McCullough hit a line drive up the middle for a single. Ashley Roszkos followed with a line drive up the middle for a single.  Julie Stauder hit a ground ball to short stop Christina Meyers who threw to 3rd base to get the lead runner and force out.  Amber Smith grounded out to 2nd baseman Jessica Garcia for Out No. 2. Rose Docena hit the ball to center field and was safe on an error.  Ashley and Julie scored. Rose ended up on 2nd base. Laurel Pipkin hit a grounder to short stop and was safe at first base on a throwing error. She advanced to 2nd base on the play.  Rose scored on the play.  Sarah O'Neill popped-up to the 3rd baseman to end the game. The final score was 7-0 in favor of California.  

Julie Stauder pitched the whole game for California Sorcerer Gold.  She had 7 strike-outs, no walks and gave-up 3 hits.  College Sports Exposure radared Julie throwing between 58 and 63 mph.  Her average pitch speed was about 60 mph. Catherine Rodriguez, Morgan Springs and Brittany Evans had hits for the Gulf Coast Challengers.  Catherine singled in the 3rd inning.  Morgan hit a shot in the gap between 3rd and short stop for a single in the 4th inning. Brittany hit a Texas Leaguer that fell in behind the 2nd baseman for a single in the 5th inning. 

Meagan Kaufmann pitched the whole game for the Challengers.  She walked one batter and gave-up 11 hits. 

The Challengers dropped to the Looser's bracket and California Sorcerer advanced to the next Winner's bracket game.
