Katy Express 18U Gold Qualifies for 18U ASA Gold Nationals in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma

June 20, 2002 - The Katy Express 18U Gold became the 2nd Greater Houston Area team and 3rd Texas Team to qualify for the 18U ASA Gold National Tournament to be held this year in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. The Katy Cuisers qualified last summer for Gold Nationals by winning the Gold National Championship in Marietta, Georgia last summer. Fear This from Fort Worth qualified for the Gold Nationals by finishing 2nd on June 9th at the 18U ASA Gold National Qualifier in Killeen, Texas.

The Katy Express placed 3rd in the Phoenix, Arizona ASA Gold National Qualifier held June 14-16. They beat the L'il Saints 5-2 Saturday night. They then came back on Sunday a bit flat, having met their trip goal, and loss to the Phoenix Storm. They then played the L'il Saints in the loser's bracket and lost 2-0. Pheonix Storm won the tournament by going 5-0. The L'il Saints placed 2nd.

The Katy Express achieved the spot at Gold Nationals with a team consisting of High School Seniors that graduate in 2003 and with four 2002 Graduates that will be playing for Community Colleges this Fall. Hannah Beery (Galveston Community College Signee), Megan Gore (Blinn Community College Signee) and Celeste Rickert (Blinn Community College Signee) are three of the 2002 Graduates. Tristle Cloud, Amie Ford (pitcher), Lindsey Gorski (short stop), Jamie Hollas, Jennifer Holas, Chelsey Knowlton (3rd base), Amanda McKnight, Christina Smith (pitcher) and Loren Stiefel are future 2003 Graduates.
