March 11, 2002 - Dulles played Kemptner in
a 6:30pm game. I talked to a few parents before the game who told me the game was
considered important in settling who might finish third since Clements and Elkins were considered the favorites to win
District 20-5A. Entering this game, Dulles had a 4-1 District record, having lost to Clements and beaten Austin, Terry,
Willowridge and Hightower. Kemptner had a 3-1 record, having lost to Elkins and beaten Terry, Willowridge and Austin.
Kemptner settled the issue early, scoring a run in the first inning. Stacey Dussetschleger barely reached first on a bunt.
Lauren Davis moved Stacey to 2nd with a sacrifice bunt. Stacey then stole 3rd when Rachel Nelson struck-out on a change-up
for out No. 2. Jennifer Mango then hit a single in the gap between left and center field that scored Stacey.
Jennifer stole 2nd, but the next batter struck out to end the inning.
Kemptner added to the score in the 3rd inning. It was Stacey Dussetschleger leading the attack again.
After the first batter struck-out, she punched a Texas Leaguer that fell in for a single. Stacey stole 2nd.
The next batter struck-out for out No. 2. Rachel Nelson then hit a double in the gap between left and center field scoring Stacey. Rachel was thrown out trying to
steal 3rd base by Casey Blakeley for out No. 3.
Kemptner added two more runs in the 4 inning. With two out, Kendyl Townsend reached first on an error by the short stop.
Mandy Popper then reached first on an error by the center fielder. Both Kendyl and Mandy scored when Autumn Downing
reached first on an error by the 3rd baseman. The next batter struck-out to end the inning. Kemptner added their last
run in the 5th inning. Stacey Dussetschleger flied out to the 2nd baseman for out No. 1.
Lauren Davis singled up the middle. Rachel Nelson then hit a single to left field. Stacey scored. The throw from the outfield went to Tricia
Robinson (the first baseman) who cut the throw off at 3rd and tagged Lauren for out No. 2. Jennifer then flied out to
left field.
Senior Casey Blakeley prevented Beth Pavilicek from pitching a no-hitter. She singled to left field in the 6th inning.
Stacey Dusselschleger and Rachel Nelson led Kemptner's offensive attack with two singles apiece. Lauren Davis and
Jennifer Mango hit the other two singles.
Senior Beth Pavilicek went the whole distance for Kemptner and improved her season record to 7 wins and 4 losses. She
threw a one hitter, striking out 9 batters and walking none. When Kemptner did put the ball in play, Jennifer Mango
(short stop), Stacey Dussetschleger (3rd base) and Kendyl Townsend (2nd base) retired the batters at first.
Junior Samantha Jacoby pitched the whole game for Dulles. Samantha struck-out 7 batters, walked none and allowed 6 hits.
