Missouri City Magic Beats Spring Klein Hawks 2-0 in International Tie Breaker Game

July 14, 2002 - The Missouri City Magic Gold eliminated the Spring Klein Hawks in a 2:00 pm Saturday looser bracket game by a score of 2-0 at the 2002 ASA Gold Region 7 Championship at Collins field in Spring/ Klein, Texas. Because of a rain storm in the 6th inning, the game actually was completed Sunday Morning.

Magic reached the game against the Hawks by loosing to the South Houston Mystixxs Friday
night by a score of 2 to 3. Magic then shut-out the San Antonio Blazers 3-0.

Spring-Klein Hawks lost Saturday morning to Impact Gold Pete by a score of 1-0. They shut-out Round Rock Trouble 6-0.

The game was scoreless until the 9th inning. Magic was at bat. Short stop Holly Ridley started
at 2nd base because it was a International Tie Breaker inning. Holly advanced to 3rd on Rachel Isenhower sacrifice bunt to the 3rd baseman. Janaya Ermel laid down a bunt that the 3rd baseman fielded and threw high to the catcher to get Holly at home. Holly scored to make it 1-0. Janaya Ermel was safe at first on a fielder's choice. Tiffany Williams then hit a line drive single between the crease between 3rd and short stop. Janaya advanced to 2nd base on the hit. Keely Jones was the next batter. Janaya advanced to 3rd and Tiffany to 2nd base on a pass ball by the catcher. Keely then hit a hard fly deep to the left fielder. Janaya tagged up and scored. Tiffany moved to 3rd base on the play. Beth Pavilicek then popped up to the center fielder to end the inning.

Kelli Gayle started at 2nd base for the Hawks in the International Tie Breaker inning with the score 2-0 in Magic's favor. Samantha Jacoby from Dulles High School popped up to the short stop for out No. 1. Lana Thomahlen flied out to the second baseman. Ashley Heath (No. 23) was the next batter.  Kelli advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch. Ashley popped up to the 2nd baseman for out No. 3.

Christina Gwyn started the game on the mound for the Hawks. Cheri Wood replaced Christina in the 4th inning. Christina walked two and gave-up just one hit in her 3 innings. She had no strike-outs. Cheri finished the game with 5 strike-outs, one walk and scattered two base hits in 6 innings.

Beth Pavilicek (Yale Signee) pitched the whole game for Magic. Beth had one strike-out, gave 
up 4 walks and scattered 3 hits. Juniors (2004 Graduates) Jaime Hinshaw, Erin Howe and Tiffany Williams led Magic offensively.  Jaime and Erin made the Greater Houston Area Softball team for their sensational high school performance this past spring.  Jaime singled up the middle in the 3rd inning. Erin hit a Texas Leaguer for a single in the 6th inning. Tiffany produced the game winning line drive single between 3rd and short stop in the 9th inning.

Joy Davis from Austin, Texas, Lana Thomahlen and No. 17 led the Hawks attack. Joy singled to right field in the 3rd inning. No. 17 singled to left field in the 4th inning. Lana singled to left field in the 2nd inning.

Magic Gold advanced to play the Texas Vipers from San Marcos. The Vipers defeated Magic in a close 3-2 game.
