April 7, 2003 - Huntsville Lady Hornets played the New Caney Lady Eagles at the White Oak Middle School in Porter,
Texas. Huntsville came into the game in first place and un-defeated in District with a 6-0 record. The
first time, the Lady Eagles met the Lady Hornets, the Hornets won 1-0 in Huntsville.
New Caney Lady Eagles had a 4-2 District record and a season record of 12 wins and 11 losses.
The Lady Hornets wasted no time in getting an early lead. In the first inning, senior Dana Artherbolt
drew a walk. Junior Calli Baker then sacrificed Dana to 2nd base. Senior Katie Anderson and
junior Elizabeth Gibson walked, loading the bases. Dana scored on a pass ball by the catcher
when freshman Megan Mikulin was batting. New Caney pitcher Carla Kennimer struck-out Megan for
Out No. 2. Katie Anderson scored to give the Lady Hornets a 2-0 lead on another pass ball when
sophomore Charly Baker was batting. Carla Kennimer struck-out Charly to end the inning for the Hornets.
In the 3rd inning, Huntsville added another run. With two outs, Elizabeth Gibson drew a walk.
Then senior Kristy Huritt hit the ball to right field scoring Elizabeth. The next batter struck-out.
The New Caney Eagles scored their first run in the 3rd inning. Lead-off batter Stacey Sherrod
walked and advanced to 2nd base on Monica Rios sacrifice bunt. Jessica Rios hit a grounder to the
second baseman who threw to first. Monica scored on the fielding error by the first baseman.
In the 5th inning with two outs, Monica Rios reached first base on a throwing error and kept
running the bases. She scored on another throwing error at 3rd base. Jessica Rios then singled
to center field. Shera Fowler lined out to the pitcher for Out No. 3.
In the 6th inning, Carla Kennimer drove a pitch in the gap between left and center field to
the fence and stretched the hit to an inside of the park home run. She slid in home, verily beating
the throw home. Carla's score tied the game-up at 3-3.
The game remained a 3-3 tie until the 9th inning. New Caney's Stacey Sherod reached 1st base
with a single with no outs in the inning. Monica Rios singled to right field to put runners on 1st
and 2nd base. Stacy advanced to third and Monica advanced to 2nd base on Jessica Rios sacrifice bunt.
Carla Kennimer then hit a single up the middle scoring Stacey to win the game.
Senior Carla Kennimer pitched the whole game for the Lady Eagles. Carla had 7 strike-outs, walked 5 batters,
and allowed 3 hits. Carla leads the 4A Greater Houston Area in strike-out with 161. In the 4th inning,
College Sports Exposure radar Carla throwing 61 to 63 mph. The last 3 games, Carla has had a different
Div. 1 College Coach scouting her game.
Junior Elizabeth Gibson pitched almost 8 innings until she was relieved by freshman Morgan Mikulin.
Elizabeth threw mostly drop balls. She had 3 strike-outs, walked 1 batter and gave-up 7 hits.
Morgan gave up three more hits.
