Heather Stratman Signs with Centenary College

Heather Stratman signed a NCAA National Letter of Intent to play both softball and volleyball at Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana. Centenary College is a NCAA Division I school.

The signing took place at Shiner High School with her parents and her high school coaches
Michelle Winkenwerder and David Goetz present.  This 4-year scholarship allows
Heather the opportunity to play both sports while majoring in communications.

Heather made several trips to Centenary College to meet the softball team, visit with the off-season volleyball girls and check out the campus. She was impressed with the friendliness of the players and the enthusiasm of the coaches.

In High School, Heather excelled in UIL academics as well as playing in 3 sports. She advanced to State this year in the OAP production, "Aesop's Fables," garnishing 2 Best Actresses and 2 All Star Casts along the way. She also placed 5th at the regional meet in persuasive speaking. Heather was also a varsity cheerleader and student council member along with being an active member of the United Dr. Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Shiner.

In volleyball, Heather received Newcomer of the Year, All-District, All-Area Second Team and All-State Honorable Mention team as well as Shiner All-Tourney 2 years in a row. In softball, Heather was Honorable Mention first baseman her freshman year, and All-District catcher her sophomore and junior year. She has played on summer teams in both sports and has attended numerous camps. Heather has played Little League and ASA Fast Pitch.  Last summer she qualified for the 2000 AFA Nationals held in Beaumont while playing with the Cy-Fair Intruders 18U ASA Gold.  There she caught the first pitch thrown from a city councilman to start the tournament.

Heather is the daughter of Chuck and Teri Stratman and the granddaughter of Ila Stratman and Eva Davidson, all of Shiner. Her sister Amber attends Shiner Elementary, and her older sister Jennifer attends UT at Dallas.
