Lindsey Maxey signs with Temple Jr. College

Lindsey Maxey , a three-sport athlete at Shiner high school, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play softball at Temple Jr. College.

The signing took place at Home Plate Bar & Grill with her parents, relatives, Shiner High coaches and Temple Jr. college softball coach, Larry Hennig, in attendance.

With the signing, Lindsey receives a full 2-year college scholarship and an opportunity to play softball.

"This is a 2-way commitment," said Hennig. "Temple can offer Lindsey an opportunity for an education and she in turn will be a great addition to our softball program."

Lindsey was recruited, not only for her pitching ability, but also for her all-around athletic abilities.

"Lindsey has the potential to be an outstanding pitcher but we also look for someone who can play other positions and can handle the bat well. Lindsey is very versatile and has the size and strength to be a power hitter," noted Hennig.

Lindsey said she really felt good about the coaches and players when she visited Temple in December. "I was really impressed by the coaches and players and felt it was a good place for me to start," she said.

Lindsey had several offers from colleges, including St. Mary's in San Antonio and a number of out-of-state colleges.

Lindsey's parents were just as excited about the opportunity.

"All the hard work was worth it. It has really paid off for her," said her dad.

The signing came one day short of Lindsey's 18th birthday. Her family used the occasion to celebrate her birthday with relatives and friends.

Some of Lindsey's accomplishments include:

As a freshman Lindsey earned District Newcomer of the Year and All-State honors by the Texas Girls's Coaches Association.

In her sophomore season, Maxey had a 16-3 record and led the Lady Comanches to the state semifinals.
In her junior year, she had a 0.474 batting average and was 10-3 as a pitcher despite battling tendonitis. In both of these seasons she was voted the District's MVP, received All-State honors as a pitcher and designated player.

She has also played summer ball with teams from the Austin and Houston area. She has qualified and played in the NSA World Series held in Jupiter, Florida and in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1998 and 1999 and the AFA Nationals held in Beaumont in the summer of 2000.

Lindsey is the daughter of Robert and Barbara Maxey and the grand-daughter of the Edwin and Gladys Chumchal of Shiner and the late David and Bonnie Maxey of Cuero.
